Which came first, the oviraptor or the egg? by LuxNova Which came first, the oviraptor or the egg? by LuxNova
20x24 acrylic on board.
I'd been wanting to paint a dino-rider for a while, but when the Bill Nye debate with Ken Ham was announced earlier this year some of my friends and I started researching the argument FOR creation in an effort to understand the 'other side' of the issue... However, some of the videos we found were so insanely convoluted I laughed myself to tears and nearly choked on my coffee in an effort to spit it across the table incredulously. One of my favorite videos was in a 3-part series offering proof that Man walked with dinosaurs citing the movie Jurassic Park as evidence...
And so my sexy Oviraptor Rider was born!!! The dinosaur I chose for the painting is a Chirostenotes (ky-ro-sten-O-tees,) an Oviraptorosaurian dinosaur from the late Cretaceous. I happen to have a copy of the NatGeo magazine with an article on the first feathered raptor fossils (guess Jurassic Park isnt as accurate as Creationists would have you believe!) and so I recreated this dinosaur from pictures of fossils, modern raptors, and artist renderings. If you look closely, you'll notice that the rider's face paint and eye color even match her mount!
I was able to finish the original, 20x24" acrylic on board, and have it displayed at the Bill Nye The Science Guy debate viewing party. If you haven't seen the debate yet, by the way, WATCH IT!

I will have exclusive limited edition signed and numbered framed prints at MegaCon. Pre-order on Etsy:…?
